Node.js not working..

Hi,

I have using this application in my local. when i run the app, i get below error in console.

http://localhost:8080/socket.io/1/?t=1418015746044

Since i am new to node.js, not able to run the code exactly. I used following url to run,

http://localhost/nodephp/

Please guide to solve this issue.

Hi,

steps that worked for me
already installed node (step 4)

1 - create DB 'nodetest' with table 'message' (id, name, message)
2 - index.php - change '$message->author' to '$message->name'
3 - In "nodephp/js/nodeServer.js", change "server.listen( 8080 );" to "server.listen( 3000 );"
4 - in "nodephp/js/nodeClient.js", change "var socket = io.connect( 'http://localhost:8080' );" to
"var socket = io.connect( 'http://localhost:3000' );"
5 - in command prompt, node nodephp/js/nodeServer.js
6 - open 2 or more browsers and start chatting

been installing your example project all doing well. I also made some changes from the above comment... the thing is when I run

node nodeServer.js

the console display a log that says

info - socket.io started

which I was assuming running fine, then when I run

localhost:3000 it displays some message

Cannot GET /

Hi ekarudianto,

I used 'http://localhost/nodePHP' (as like a normal php project) to run the project in the browser. Hope, this will work for you.
I guess some other (connect,..) packages need to be installed to work on 'localhost:3000'.

Inorder to run node server file, node.js should be installed in your system.
To see whether or not there's a more recent version that works with your system. Open the terminal and run node -v. Recent version is higher than v0.10.32.

To Install node.js

If you're using OS X or Windows, the best way to install Node.js is to use one of the installers from nodejs.org

For linux users, run this in the terminal
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install nodejs

You may also require node package manager
sudo apt-get install npm

This is a good example. But I am facing one problem. In this example node server does not work other 8080 port.
Guys had you tired node server other than port 8080

I also faced the same problem that @doemmakara posted. I resolved this issue by deleting node_modules under nodePHP/js folder. Then, I reinstalled the latest versions of the modules at this time of writing. I did this by first creating a file called package.json in the nodePHP/js folder with contents similar to this below:

"dependencies": {
"express": "^4.15.2",
"socket.io": "^1.7.4"

"scripts": {
"start": "node nodeServer.js"
}
}

After adding above file( package.json), I then navigated in command prompt to nodePHP/js
and then i ran the lines below, one at a time.

npm install express@4.15.2
npm install socket.io

SO THIS MADE THE NODE.js server run successfully with the command "node nodeServer.js" when in the directory of nodePHP/js. But in case your port 8080 is being used, then as mentioned in previous comments you can change that as well.
