opening any app other than alacritty just sticks the application in the corner of the screen

That error is rare because I have not noticed it in my configuration.
I use all the applications that you mention and I have no problems, except for the gtk4 applications (and the problem is minimal)

If you open applications with keyboard shortcuts you need to use "&"
