Wi-Fi drops 1-4 times per day (long term drops until manually revived)

Even though I have changed USB wi-fi adapters I am still experiencing wi-fi drops. This happens 1-4 times per day. This started near mid-June. I experienced a similar issue with the last wi-fi adapter. See #647

Today the P-D (v4.8.1) live monitoring graph stoped at July 01 4:54:00 AM:

In the docker log I see LOTS of:

I am stuck on how to fix. The wi-fi dropped at July 01 4:54:00 AM but there are no journalctl <warn> messages until Jul 01 05:01:55.

How do I tell if this is a docker issue or a RPi / wifi usb adapter issue?

I use a service for initiating the connection to the powerwalls with WPA_supplicant, the logs seem to line up with the graph:

I will offer this addendum:

Last night, in an effort to play with fire - defying the "don't touch it if it ain't broke" rule - I decided it was time to move my client machine talking to the proxy RPi inside the house rather than still living in the garage next to the RPi running the proxy. I swear I didn't touch the proxy box, yet as soon as I shut down my client box the system seemed to start to misbehave. I was seeing the same errors as above, but I'll offer one additional bit I've been seeing for some time: a Timeout for a thread object logged at INFO level:

Knowing others had had these problems show up seemingly out of nowhere, I pushed on a bit to try to debug things, albeit not with a really focused effort (I don't know why I did this right before wanting to go to bed, but I did).

I played with some connection pool settings, played with timeout settings, even did silly things like put the client box back out in the garage (I assured the box it wasn't punishment, but I'll probably have to make up more substantially soon), but all I found I was able to do was make the thread lock errors more prevalent, and the connections continue to be bad.

One observation I had was that some calls did go through to the PW3, but many did not. I could get the grid status most of the time, get the battery level, but not anything big. I'd see a bit of data updating here and there, but not like it should.

Exasperated and tired, I reached the "I'll look at this more in the morning" stage and went to bed.

I got up fully expecting to need to restart the main PW3 (lead of three), and lo and behold, the problem was gone.

I still get the thread lock timeout messages (reported elsewhere as a bug), and I don't know what caused the problem in the first place, but it's a past tense thing now.

I'm starting to wonder if they are using HW3 chips to drive the PW3 processing.....

I occasionally get the same errors, but mine recovers quickly (< 5m) and never shows up on the graph. I may just be lucky so far. That's an interesting observation @JEMcats. Some of this could be dhcp lease renewals.

We could add a feature so that pypowerwall will downgrade to cloud connection during connection issue times. It would fill in the basic data. We could have it retry connecting locally every 5 to 10m. Not sure if that would be helpful.

I’ve also been experiencing apparently random dropouts of PW3 WiFi (I connect via an Opal mini router).

If reversion to cloud data is added then for transparency I would ask that the current connection mode be recorded in InfluxDb if it isn’t already, with the option to display it. Otherwise one might be blissfully unaware of the issue.

Mine usually recovers rather quickly as well. I only likely noticed this time because I just happened to be standing next to it and, I don't know, breathed on it? Just amusing that in that one instance it goes on for a few hours.

I'm not sure I'd like to drop back were this to happen, but I can see offering it as an option. It's also worth considering that if you retry connection periodically, upon which calls do you base success? The other night, some of the data came in frequently enough to not have concluded the connection was down. Had I not been looking.....

Hey! y'all hijacked my issue. I am not sure the issues I see are the same as others. I don't see the dhcpack dhcprequest items. My wi-fi drops are > 5 min and all must be manually corrected. None come back on their own. (see drops from image below)

After 25.10.4 update, initially I had similar issue with wifi connection to TEG-network. I was running Powerwall Dashboard on Raspberry pi 4 but onboard wifi was bit weak on my location, had Archer T2U nano adapter around so tried it but it still had issues.

I've moved Dashboard to docker in Proxmox and tried travel router, GL-MT1300, Beryl, it was better but logs shows constant disconnection and reconnection. While Dashboard had good connection for day or so, 'Powerwall3 to MQTT' on Home Assistant would constantly disconnect and had to be manually restarted just like your graph above.

My solution: I got Archer T3U plus(I know you don't recommend it anymore) on Raspberry pi 4 in bridge mode
First driver I used was not stable and in 'iwconfig' had way less information. Also Link quality was in ~60/70 and Tx excessive retries would go up slowly
Wiped off Raspberry pi clean and installed different driver for it, now Link quality above 95/100 all the time and Tx excessive retries at 0, never seen 1 or any other number
Turning off 'Power Management' on wifi and disabling onboard wifi seems to help as well

I think last time I updated Raspberry pi was ~3weeks ago or so I'm a bit afraid to upgrade dist as you stated.

I'll try to find which driver I used for Archer T3U plus

• as of a few minutes ago I am using the Panda Wireless PAU0D AC1200 Wireless AC USB Adapter (MediaTek MT7612U 0e8d:7612) .

For your Panda, did you config anything special with NetworkManager or WPA? install any new of special driver?

Or is it a true "plug & play" install?

It changes most every time. Sometimes it is:

what I notice is if "Tx excessive retries" number goes up, it eventually leads to disconnection.
With other driver I used actually shows usb device as Archer T3U Plus but with this driver, kinda shows genetic, TP-Link 802.11ac NIC but iwconfig section definitely shows more data(I don't have iwconfig data with other driver)

With Raspberry pi 4 in bridge mode and Archer T3U Plus adapter, I haven't had issue with Powerwall3 to MQTT in HA(Proxmox VM) and Dashboard(Proxmox docker) with connection lost issues for past ~3weeks or so

Yeah, the 2.4G WiFi connection to Gateway 2 is finicky.
Alas the best solution I've found apart from external USB WiFI with antenna is to get your RPi as close as possible to the Gateway to improve signal and limit the channel interference in 2.4GHz band. But I really appreciate @jasonacox constantly improving the tool as Tesla keeps locking down our access more & more.

I am looking closer at the logs. It all starts after the log line:

The ip is associated with telegraf on the Docker bridge network, as seen in Portainer:

I wonder if telegraf is flooding pypowerwall with requests and crashing it, or maybe the powerwalls are rate limiting requests from pypowerwall. If this is true, all that would need to be done is adding some kind of rate limiter into pypowerwall that would slow down the requests. To my understanding telegraf is requesting pypowerwall which is passing those requests to the powerwalls, so you would hold those requests temporarily in pypowerwall, or configure telegraf to send requests slower.

FYI - I am experiencing issues with the Panda Wireless PAU0D AC1200 Wireless AC USB Adapter (MediaTek MT7612U 0e8d:7612). Same type of drop outs as the OP.

NOTE: the next items seems very inaccurate, but I don't know how to get an accurate timestamp for when P-D stops getting and graphing data.

Something I noticed is if I disconnect and reconnect from the network the:

requests.exceptions.ReadTimeout: HTTPSConnectionPool(host='192.168.91.1', port=443): Read timed out. (read timeout=5)
