There's not currently a dedicated endpoint for backups. However, you can use POST /api/v2/diagnostics/command_prompt to read the configuration file, which could be used for backup purposes. You'd just need to set the command parameter to cat /conf/config.xml. If that's not sufficient, feel free to submit a feature request.
