Snapshot feature

Maybe it is me, but the snapshot feature is somehow confusing.
I was planing to use the stream for a preview on the HA dashboard and make a picture via automation (disabe stream, snapshot, stream again) every hour or so. But the only picture that is saved to my home assistant is the "latest" picture and this gets overwritten everytime i do a new snapshot. The pictures with individual date stay on the camera system. Even when i set 2 pictures to make, only latest shows on the reaspberry pi. Ssh and stuff is obviously correctly set up.

This is exactly how it shall work: HA can only show one snapshot , hence the latest version is overwritten when it was updated by webcam client. But there is no feature or planned feature to backup older snapshots on HA host: these are stored & still available (incl. time stamp) on the webcam's client.

Actually there is no feature to create a streaming preview snapshot when a stream has started , continuously or was closed.

So this is for the picture that can be set up for the video preview, nothing else? I was hoping to realise something like making pictures in an interval for as long as i want and watch them in a gallery like https://github.com/TarheelGrad1998/gallery-card

i surely still don't fully get it, but why are the other pictures kept on the pi? There is already a feature to copy pictures to ha. There is a feature to take multiple pictures. So leaving those pictures on the pi just seems not consequent for me. When ppl want to access these pictures they still have to enter the pi manually and copy them by hand.

easy solution without copy them: just export the local webcam client "storepath" folder which contains all taken snapshots and share it via NFS (or SAMBA).
