When running expo prebuild, I am getting the following error.

Failed to parse your GoogleService-Info.plist. Are you sure it is a valid Info.Plist file with a REVERSE_CLIENT_ID field?

Note, I've double checked that I have the correct GoogleService-Info.plist file.
I have set up a few projects with no problem in the past, but this time I noticed that my GoogleService-Info.plist file does not include a REVERSE_CLIENT_ID field.

I generated a new iOS app and it still did not contain REVERSE_CLIENT_ID field. I wonder if Firebase has changed the Plist file?

I tried to create a new firebase project and created an iOS app, likewise there was no REVERSE_CLIENT_ID nor CLIENT_ID in the Plist. I wonder if this is a bug on the Firebase side?

As a temporary fix, I found my Client Id through the Android "google-service.json" file and manually added in CLIENT ID and REVERSED CLIENT ID to my iOS Plist file.

For those that do not have a reference, this is what the "reversed" client ID looks like.

I confirm. I can't start a new project because of this.

For some reason firebase doesn't create client ids automatically when you create a new project (as it did previously). Not sure why this is happening.

If you go here https://console.cloud.google.com/apis/credentials you'll see that the "OAuth 2.0 Client IDs" list is empty.

However you can create client ids manually as described here https://developers.google.com/google-ads/api/docs/get-started/oauth-cloud-project#id-secret After finishing these steps you can download GoogleService-Info.plist and google-services.json again. It will contain CLIENT_ID and REVERSED_CLIENT_ID.

Not sure if this is the correct cause / solution, but I just solved the issue in my project after getting the error in the config plugin for the react-native-firebase/auth module --

I think the first time I downloaded "GoogleService-Info.plist", I had not instantiated the Authentication module in the Firebase Console, and there was no REVERSED_CLIENT_ID key, which caused the error. After instantiating / configuring the module in the cloud and redownloading the plist, the key/value pair was populated.

That's all I can think of that I did between downloads that would have caused the plists to be different. Hopefully will work for you

This looks like an intended behavior, starting in April 2023, values for CLIENT_ID and REVERSE_CLIENT_ID are only added to the Firebase config file when Google sign-in is enabled in the project. If the config file was downloaded before April 2023, then these values are present regardless of the enablement of Google sign-in.

I'll test if sending push notifications works without providing a client id (in Flutter)

This is correct. If you are using EAS build and Managed Workflow and found out that "OAuth 2.0 Client IDs" list is empty. What you need to do are

1. Firebase Console: Go to your Firebase Console and navigate to the Authentication section.
2. Sign-In Method: Click on the "Sign-in method" tab, then click on "Google."
3. ignore Safelist client IDs from external projects and Web SDK configuration (If you're only working with a React Native application and not a web app, you don't need to focus on this.), unless you know what you are doing.
4. After saving, you will see in your Android app "Provide SHA-1 fingerprint, and then download and replace the configuration file in your app. Go to Project Settings > Your apps section."
5. go to the root of your project, in terminal enter "eas credentials"
6. Select platform › Android => Which build profile do you want to configure? › development => Using build profile: development => then you will see SHA1 Fingerprint on your screen.
7. Get the SHA1 Fingerprint from the screen
8. Go to the Firebase Console.
9. Click on your project.
10. Navigate to Project Settings (usually the gear icon near the top-left).
11. Under the "Your apps" section, select your Android app.
12. Scroll to the "SHA certificate fingerprints" section.
13. Click on "Add fingerprint" and paste in your SHA1 fingerprint.
14. download new google-services.json and GoogleService-Info.plist and put them into your project root
15. "eas build --profile development --platform ios"

Done

The expo support in these modules is community-supported

It sounds like the expo config plugin needs an update to handle the new case where these fields are optional in the plist file and may not exist?

Just tested it. For apps where the GoogleService-Info.plist does not contain a CLIENT_ID, FCM on Flutter worked without specifiying it. So maybe you can get rid of the requirement in this library too. All the best to you guys :)

confirming this is broken. the generated file does not contain the clientid nor the reversed client id
