When to use Notifee and when to use RN Firebase methods?

I'm not sure when I have to use Notifee vs RN Firebase methods. When should I use what?

Both seem to offer similar methods for:

• background messages: notifee.onBackgroundEvent() & messaging().setBackgroundMessageHandler()
• foreground messages: notifee.onForegroundEvent() & messaging.onMessage()
• requestnig permissions: notifee.requestPermission() & messaging().requestPermission()
• getting an initial notification: notifee.getInitialNotification() & messaging().getInitialNotification()

Can (and should) I use both?

(I use Notifee because I want to schedule and show local notifications when the app is open, also I want to perform actions like navigating to a certain screen when a user presses a notification.)

Hi there!
Use @react-native-firebase/messaging without notifee if you are okay with the basic methods and notification presentation that the underlying firebase-android-sdk / firebase-ios-sdk provide you.

Use @notifee/react-native if you would like to take advantage of the larger surface area specific to device-local notification apis that Notifee presents.

That's basically it. Okay with cloud messaging JSON delivery and really basic notification APIs? firebase only.
More specific business requirements and you need local device notification API access? Use Notifee on top.

@mikehardy can we use both ? notifee for local notification and fcm for firebase push notifications? if yes how can I handle app openings from firebase notification? getInitialNotification of firebase/messaging return null if you use both firebase and notifee on iOS

on iOS you want to use the notifee event handlers - ios does not really have the concept of "background", so it's challenging to design an API that handles everything. I believe the notifee tap events on iOS should contain the information though?

Okay, can you tell me please @mikehardy if can I separate notifee and react native firebase ? I don't want notifee handles my firebase push notifications on iOS/android but I want to use the notifee only for local notifications and handle these notifications only. Before the version of 6.0.0 notifee was not related with the fcm and was work like a charm. Yes onForegroundEvent I have all data but inside onForegroundEvent's callback I cannot control my flow beacuse my flow continues until called this event and when this event fires user navigated to the relation screen and my other tasks on my main flow stay incompleted.

You can't separate them at the moment with v7 notifee

Stay on V6 if that's a strict requirement

Hi @mikehardy, do we have a workaround on v6 for this issue: #528? v7 fixed this issue but I cannot upgrade due to the remote notifications conflicts.
