• I have tried reproducing this issue in ungoogled-chromium and it could not be reproduced there
• I have tried reproducing this issue in Helium with a new and empty profile using --user-data-dir command line argument and it could not be reproduced there

Middle click paste still occurs when autoscrolling on Linux

How to Reproduce?

1. Open a long web page that you can scroll through, containing an input
2. Focus on the input
3. Perform an autoscroll
4. Release the autoscroll near a focused input (this isn't necessary though if autoscrolling on Discord, see the video)

Actual behavior

When autoscroll is released, it performs middle click paste, making it frankly annoying when autoscrolling with a focused input around.

Expected behavior

It shouldn't perform middle-click paste.

Additional context

very much aware that this is actually a Chromium issue here (because Brave has the same patch reenabling autoscroll), but since it is a flag that's been intentionally shown and enabled by Helium I feel it's worth mentioning somehow.

This is technically a GNOME/Mutter limitation. The 'Middle-Click Paste' option in control centre unfortunately only applies to GTK/Gnome apps and does nothing on Chromium/Electron apps.

It's a huge security risk, especially since most things are switching over to wayland by default and have other functionality bound to middle click aside from just pasting, like panning and autoscroll for example. So just be aware you can unintentionally be pasting highly sensitive information to web pages that capture paste input (with or without you knowing) if you use autoscroll. (As you've demonstrated with Discord)

I'd just say to use the flag --disable-features=MiddleClickAutoscroll if you're going to continue using GNOME.

KDE's system setting to disable pasting on middle click works across the board on all apps for Wayland sessions just FYI.

Yes, there is is this issue in GNOME Mutter Gitlab which has been mostly ignored.

Also a ticket logged on chromiums issue tracker looking for potentially a similar implementation to firefox's middlemouse.paste flag on an application level, rather than environmental level. The chromium ticket seemingly has been sent to the abyss/wrong category.
