Open Picker in Oil like Buffer

I don't really like floating windows and would love to be able to open a picker in a oil like buffer. I don't need to be able to edit or do anything other than search it's more so the layout option of replacing the current buffer I am in.

Would appreciate any advice in getting something similar to this working.

I ended up going with the fullscreen float approach. I ran into some edge cases with enew where it was more trouble than it's worth. Thank you.
