Configurator Map

I am just starting using INAV, having tried and still using Ardupilot. The INAV Configurator GPS map screen and mission planner screen seems to only offer a map with very little detail, in fact the farm fields I regularly fly from are effectively blank, impossible to use for waypoint setting, etc. There seems to be no menu option for satellite etc views, is this so??

Configurator can use any number of map providers.
You may be looking at OpenstreetMap. Bing maps WAS popular for pretty good maps, but recently Bing stopped allowing people to register new API keys. If you already have a Bing maps key, you can enter it at the top right of Configurator.

There are hundreds, perhaps thousands, of map providers you can use via MapProxy - IR maps, topo maps, all kinds of maps. That's a bit inconvenient to set up, though.

We're working on a new "default" map provider to replace Bing. That will likely be ESRI.

Certainly seems it, appears quite impenetrable to me so far, as a "simple" user with limited programmer skills! (And Windows based, not LINUX)

To be clear, all I need is a Satellite Map of the basic quality provided within ArduPilot operated from a GPS page quick change one click menu to switch back and fore to a conventional map. Most of the time I'd be using the satellite map since I'm flying in open countryside but with a 300 foot height limit so the height range available is small. With quads I would be most of the time operating in clear field space around but below or avoiding (so need to see on map) boundary mature treetop level.

Yeah that's how it was/is with Bing maps and the team is working on bringing in a new map provider.

For the time being, probably the simplest thing you can do is have Google Maps or whatever open in a browser next to it, and cross reference. Looking at the Google map in the browser and saying "I want to be due both of this major feature", then clicking based on that landmark in the OSM map.

Or, find a Bing maps API key to hold you over until we get the new map provider done. :)
