WalkSnail Moonlight OSD does not work with INAV 8

Current Behavior

Despite being enabled via Configuration tab, ports tab, and configured in OSD tab, the OSD will not disaply for the WalkSnail Moonlight.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Set UART to MSP DisplayPort
2. Ensure OSD is toggled on on Configuration Tab
3. Select Avatar on OSD drop down menu

Expected behavior

I expected to have an OSD

Suggested solution(s)

I reflashed my drone with BetaFlight and the OSD works. It just will not work in INAV8 (or in INAV 7.1.2)

I use IANV 8.0 with walksnail Moonlight, i have no issues and OSD works perfect. (tested with 8.0 RC and 8.0 official)

Currently experiencing the same issue. Same steps to reproduce. It just doesn't work on inav 8.0.. Back to Betaflight until they can figure this out.

It appears the difference between Inav and BF here is that INAV will not allow me to set MSP on, and MSPDisplayport as a peripheral at the same time.

So the issue is that you assumed that INAV needs to use BetaFlight's long winded method to set up MSP DisplayPort. You probably should have looked up how to set it up on INAV. There is no need to set MSP on that port. You only need to set MSP DisplayPort as the peripheral.

That's incorrect. I set it up how it's supposed to work in INAV, and it did not. I have walksnail systems functioning on INAV, just not the moonlight. I tried other methods that I knew to work, and that also did not work. I wish INAV devs would start assuming that we've read the instructions before jumping to condescension. cheers!

I just chatted with someone who had the same issue on INAV with the Moonlight. He had to use a camera switcher and then change it from user 1 to user 2 in the modes tab. No further info on this, but have you heard anything like this before?

That has to do with video, not OSD.

On some FCs, you can switch between two analog cameras, using USER1 or USER2.
On some FCs, you can turn the VTX on or off using USER1 or USER2.

Neither of these is really relevant if your problem is indeed the OSD, not the camera video. On the other hand, if you said "OSD" when you meant "camera" that's a completely different issue and nothing said in this issue is relevant.

I put a WalkSnail HDv2 on my INAV build (the one where Moonlighy wasn’t working) and that one works just fine. I confirm the same problem on a Radiolink F722 on inav 8.0.1, no osd on moonlight.

• tried a walksnail hd pro and it works fine
• Flashed betaflight and it works at expected

Have you updated the fonts in the receiver to work with inav 8?

I have the same issue with Eachine Sphere Link (VTX) where OSD does on show. Using INAV8.0.1 running on a SpeedyBee.
What I also did see is that if MSPDisplayport is put in the description field in the Port Tab but in the Config Tab OSD is not on, the system crashes without possibility to recover. Flashing again is the only solution. Something is not right in INAV 8.0.1.

Hello all,

Today, I put a Moonlight on my AtomRC Penguin.... and the same, NO OSD. As others, already do, i've tried to update everything but the result stay the same, NO OSD.

I've checked Wires and all are OK.

I don't understand why.... "the same" MoonLight was OK (With OSD) on another 3D Printed Plane with a SpeedyBee F405 Navi and INAV 7.1.2 !!

UPDATE : It's working for me !

In fact, on my flight controller (F405 NAVI by ATOMRC), it seems that the "VTX" and "DJI" connectors are really differentiated (Even if it is indicated TX5/RX5 on both). If a source is connected to the "VTX" 4-pin ports, it does not work in MSP mode; it is imperative to use the "DJI" ports (4 pins used out of 6, namely RX-TX-GND-9V).

Hopefully this helps other users.

I'm out of the loop whether or not Inav devs have stopped caring about people or not, but seeing all these same people having the same issue only with inav 8.0 sure warrants a response of some kind.

I don't have Moonlight, so there's not much I can do. I couldn't even test if I had fixed it or not.

One thing you can do is add a couple elements to the other OSD screens, to see if it's loading a different one than you expected.

Also, check whether the Moonlight unit has a setting for INAV mode vs Ardupilot vs Px4 vs whatever - some systems do.
