Currently, GPUpad uses the Adwaita icon set, which is GNOME's native icon set.
Users may often set different icon sets to be used in their desktop environment, or use a different desktop environment with different icons.
I, for example, use KDE, which uses its Breeze icon set by default.
I propose that GPUpad, like a lot of other software, may (at least have an option to) use native icons.
FreeDesktop's specifications for icons can be found here, and you can find the info for fetching native icons in Qt here.
