Unclear instructions for using Wumiibo app #122
Description
I downloaded Wumiibo for the first time via Universal Updater, and I found the app confusing and unintuitive for a first-time user. There are no clear instructions when the app is launched, and it's unclear what each menu item does or what steps are required to make Wumiibo work in-game.
Expected Behavior
Upon launching the app, the top screen should explain the purpose of the app and provide guidance for new users. For example:
Main Menu Options:

Select Amiibo for a Game
Choose which Amiibos you want to use with your games. -
Download Selected Amiibo
Downloads the selected Amiibos to your device and enables Wumiibo (restarts the device). -
Toggle Wumiibo State
Enables or disables the Wumiibo system service.
Actual Behavior
When I first opened the app, I had to figure everything out by trial and error:
- I navigated through the menus and found a list of Amiibos, then selected the ones I wanted.
- I assumed “Toggle Wumiibo State” would activate the Amiibos in-game, but nothing happened when I launched a game.
- After a few minutes, I tried the “Download Amiibo” option. I initially misunderstood it as downloading all Amiibos, but it turns out this is the actual step that installs the selected Amiibos and enables the Wumiibo background service. The device restarts at this point.
- After rebooting, I noticed the Wumiibo process was running, and using the L + D-Pad Down + Start combo finally brought up the in-game Wumiibo menu.
Once active, the Wumiibo menu offers the following options:

Description: Downloads and installs the latest Wumiibo. -
Generate Amiibo for a Game
Description: Generates compatible Amiibos for the currently running game. -
Toggle Wumiibo State
Description: Enables or disables the Wumiibo background service.
Suggestion
- Display a short guide on the top screen when the app launches, explaining the app’s purpose and basic usage.
- Include instructions for activating the in-game menu (L + D-Pad Down + Start).
- Clarify the purpose and behavior of each menu item in both the homebrew app and the in-game menu.
Optional Feature Request
- Add an option to delete installed Amiibos from the device. This would help with managing storage and removing unused Amiibos more easily.
Thanks for all the work on this tool — it’s incredibly powerful once it’s set up, but clearer UI guidance would make it much more accessible to new users.
