need a possibility to explicitly prevent data-tier from processing some subtree

It looks like in some cases there is a need to proactively create a shadowed subtree, so that data-tier won't step into that part of the DOM.
Need to investigate this use-case, possible implications and valid and convenient work-arounds, if any.
