RP2350 PIO based galvo support?

I know that there was a prototype of galvo support with I2S hardware. I came across a PIO based implementation of an RP2350 I2S on github and that got me thinking. I'm interested in maybe doing a board with a couple of DACs. I'm guessing the DACs need to be better than 8 bit. Is 12-bit more common? Are R-ladder DACs acceptable for galvos? Not sure what level of accuracy is required. Any thoughts or suggestions welcome.

Controlled by XY motion? If so the number of bits should correspond with the desired resolution and the conversion rate with the rate of movement.
