Export all passwords and gpg keys and move gopass to another computer

Hi all,
I cannot find the way to move gopass to another computer with all passwords and keys included.

What I've tried till now is:

1. create a gpg key in the new machine with gpg --gen-key
2. initialize gopass with gopass init
3. move all gopass store files to new machine via scp (I mean the directory structure in .local/share/gopass/stores/)

I did not succeed but I am sure I miss something, since my git and gpg knowledge is really basic !!

Is there a documented method so I can follow ? or any suggestions ?

Hi, stumbled upon this. Did you sort something out?

If moving to new machine and you successfully moved the gopass store to the new machine, you might also move your .gpg directory to the new machine and then you have your existing store plus your existing (previous) gpg keys. The passwords in the store would be encrypted for that previous gpg key so once you have that, you should be good to decrypt on the new machine.

You can simply pack all your GPG and Gopass directories over (tar cvzf gopass.tgz .gnupg .local/share/gopass .config/gopass), but the intended use-case is to set up a Git remote and use that to sync the two (or more) machines. I do that all the time, it's my primary use case.

@techieshark I know it's a too late respond! Didn't try anything yet waiting for any suggestions, but yes, this was my idea too.

@dominikschulz I didn't try this yes cause of my little knowledge on git.

• are there any privacy issues by pushing to a git ?
• should it be a private repo or not ?
• is there any documentation / help cause I didn't find something ?

• There are privacy issues when pushing to a public git repository. The filenames of your secrets will be visible and that might not be what you want.
• I would suggest to use a private Git repository.
• I'm not sure if we have good documentation for this. TBH I did not expect anyone to use gopass without git. I never really thought about this. Please take a look at our documentation and open an issue if you think it's missing something.

But it's your primary use-case you said. Or by "Git remote" you mean something else ?
I remind you my git usage "entry-level" :)
