Porting to kernel 3.0

I see that in the porting guide you stated that the kernel version should be at least 3.10, could you please enlighten me on the reason of that? Would it be a bad idea to try to port it to kernel 3.0?

Looks like Version 2.4 of the driver was already working with linux kernel 3.0.
If retro-compatibility is not an option, could you please make the tags of the major versions?
