The ability to retrieve a file's icon(s)

Would it be possible to retrieve a specified files icon(s)? If there are multiple it could return an array of them.

What kind of icons are we talking about here? The ones in the editor filesystem?

I mean external files, like an executable on the desktop.

Icons on Windows are determined by shell extensions, which are a very complex system that allows running external code to create thumbnails for custom file types.

The amount of complexity this would add to the engine would likely be extremely high. Out of curiosity, what do you need this for?

I can't speak for OP but personally I want to make a tool that can perform file management. I'd like to simply be able to query whatever icon the OS would use if the given file (by filepath) were placed on the desktop.

In case of Windows, SHGetFileInfoW should do most of the job, macOS have [NSWorkspace iconForFile:] to do the same. So it should be relatively simple. Not sure about Linux, probably ca be done by looking for MIME type directly in the /usr/share/mime/icons.
