The "firebaseClientInitConfig.apiKey" value is required on vercel

When I do a deploy on Vercel, I get this error The "firebaseClientInitConfig.apiKey" value is required and the deploy fails

my initAuth.js file has, apiKey: process.env.NEXT_PUBLIC_FIREBASE_PUBLIC_API_KEY,
and my .env.local file has NEXT_PUBLIC_FIREBASE_PUBLIC_API_KEY=xxxxxxxx

any suggestions here?

Ok sorry that was silly, it's excluded in the gitignore file
