Git commands other than "git" don't work whenever I use it.

So when I use git and try to do the command "git add ." it says that it was fatal and nothing changes, I type "git commit -m "Add comments."" and it still says fatal. The only command I can see to work is "git" as that opens up every command, also it never changes to the master branch.
