Error in compiling on Mac M2

I'm compiling on Mac with M2 chip. I have the following error while running make in the root folder of this project.

error: Could not find compiler "gcc-5" in PATH

I have the gcc version:

$ gcc --version                                                                                                               
Apple clang version 15.0.0 (clang-1500.1.0.2.5)
Target: arm64-apple-darwin23.2.0

Any idea?

It turns out I have:

CC=gcc-5
CXX=g++-5

in my ~/.bashrc.
Using the following would work:

CC=gcc
CXX=g++
