Saving checkpoints aka pausing text generation so it resumes later without any adverse effects on the output of the AI

Today I saw Deepseek do this when you hit the stop button while it generates text. Once you hit stop it lets you continue text generation, as if it had never been stopped

Thinking about it, maybe it was just some Linux OS pausing the process where inference was carried out and then saving the memory of the process. Not sure.
