I did a reinstall and just went a single partition setup manually to use MBR vs GPT. Still the same issue boots to a blank screen with flashing cursor upper left. It still spits out the an EFI partition is require to boot Gecko when I did the install after manually setting up the partition. The only distro I have any success so far is MX Linux. I have tried a dozen or so. Weird thing is I know Linux will run on it as I had it pure Linux about 4-5 yrs ago till a job change and had to move back to windows. |

Why not simply use the automatic Erase Disk or Replace Partition mode? |

When I do that it sets up an EFI boot partition automatically. I have also tried that as well with no success. The latest ISO Calamares installer simply only wants to do EFI and seems without doing a manual install I may be out of luck on this desktop. What I do know that method also defaults to GPT which will not work with legacy non-uefi mobo setups. It's almost as if it is not installing grub or any compatible boot loader to the MBR. I will add I installed MX Linux, it will install and has options for legacy install in the installer. Not the OS I want but i works. |

Well I solved the issue. The motherboard is an older MSI. It has this feature called Affinity 2.2tb which allowed MSI boards to load the larger 2.2 tb HD's without the need of a UEFI bios. That menu is triggered using F12. The standard legacy bios drive selection is triggered using F11. I disabled he Affinity as the HD is a 1 tb drive. Once I did that and used the F11 menu the installed recognized the system as BIO and MBR load. Now install it booting perfectly. Appreciate your assistance and who knows maybe this well aid someone else in the future. |

Can Gecko be installed on a legacy BIOS system that does not support EFI? I have tried but the installer says EFI is required. I have tried manual partition setup and all.
