Feature request: autodetect pip configuration

Autodetect index url / extra index url etc from the relevant environment variables and pip config file locations.

unearth is not tied to any specific tools, and pip is just one of them.

If adding such feature I worry that there would be much more and add maintenance burden.

You request such because pip is now the mostly common package installer of Python. However this might change in the future.

For example, uv has become popular and what if users want to respect UV's configuration?

uv treats multiple index resolution quite differently than pip, so I don't think unearth could respect uv's configuration (at least not with the current code) even if the user wanted to. Specifically, uv has index strategy configurations like first-index, unsafe-first-match, unsafe-best-match, but I don't see any code in unearth's PackageFinder to allow resolving against multiple index URLs in the way that uv does by default (i.e. "first-index").

Additionally, uv has a much richer configuration supporting e.g. indices per-project-name, and pinning specific projects to specific indices (see docs). I expect would be a big effort to respect uv's configuration in unearth, with additional logic necessary to implement.

Regarding "not tied to any specific tools", the README.md says:

The core functionality is basically extracted from pip. However, pip is not designed to be used as a library and hence the API is not very stable. Unearth serves as a stable replacement for pip's PackageFinder API.

It was my understanding that this means unearth is intended to match pip's finders, and uv is out of scope. If that's not the case, I think the landing page should be updated.
