Just dawned on me to search the bug tracker too and not just the discussions, I see a feature request for guides already exists: #250 Still, the ability to specify coordinates for positioning things similar to Inkscape would be cool, and I'd be happy to try and contribute it if it would be welcome (after v1.0 is released, I see the codebase is in feature freeze at the moment). |

I am absolutely loving Friction so far, it was powerful enough for me to make a pretty decent lyric video for Red's Let It Burn. I'm now experimenting with some of its more powerful animation features, but I've run into a frustrating limitation - there's no way to specify precisely where I want elements of the animation to be. I can draw a curve just fine, but I can't specify the pixel coordinates to put various points at, nor is there a snap-to-grid positioning feature. Everything is very freeform, which is great for quick sketching and experimentation, but difficult for anything beyond that. The only feature in Friction that lets me position things precisely is the alignment buttons, and while those are nice for positioning entire objects, they aren't really enough for drawing precise curves, nor are they as convenient as coordinate positioning or snap-to-grid would be.
I don't need or necessarily even want anything like Inkscape's level of alignment and precision features, but it would be really neat if there were just a couple of text boxes I could enter coordinates into, and a simple, straightforward grid for snapping arbitrary points (including Bezier curve handles) to. Given a choice between the two, I'd prefer the ability to enter exact coordinates (and I would guess that would be easier to implement anyways). How much trouble do those sound like to implement, and does anyone else think they'd benefit from that sort of thing? If I were to implement coordinate positioning myself, would that be something Friction would like to consider merging in?
