Compile LWC typescript in CI pipeline

The vscode extension do a great job of generating sobject types from within the editor, in .sfdx/typings.

I'd really like to generate these type defs outside of the IDE environment, eg in CI/CD pipelines. Is it possible to do this using the sfdx command line or by interacting with salesforcedx-vscode/packages/salesforcedx-sobjects-faux-generator directly?
