Google Fonts uses a dash followed by "Italic" and then axis names within brackets.

Back in january/2025, FontBakery added if font.is_italic as an additional detection mechanism at PR #4966 which should be considered to be ported into Fontspector.

More generally anything that uses .style() to determine if a font is upright or italic is going to be very GF-specific. e.g. opentype/fsselection will FAIL for Oblique fonts.
