Neovim Crashes When Using Snacks Picker for Projects or Recent Files

I'm experiencing a problem where Neovim abruptly closes when I try to use the Snacks picker for projects or recent files. There’s no error message, warning, or explanation—Neovim just shuts down and returns to the terminal.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any suggestions or ideas on what might be causing it?

Try updating Neovim.

If that doesn't help, use the latest pre-release version: https://github.com/neovim/neovim/releases/nightly

I tried with NVIM v0.12.0-dev as you suggested and it didn't solve the issue: still nvim crashed when trying to pick recent files or projects. Besides, it rises a lot of additional problems.

Now it feels complicated, and it's hard to debug since I'm not experiencing the problem myself.

What operating system are you using? If it’s Windows, are you running Neovim with WSL or without it?

1. Try to delete state and cache files:

# All these files can be safely deleted
mv ~/.local/share/nvim ~/.local/share/nvim.back
mv ~/.local/state/nvim ~/.local/state/nvim.back
rm -rf ~/.cache/nvim

2. Or use repro.lua to isolate the issue:

What operating system are you using? If it’s Windows, are you running Neovim with WSL or without it?
I am using a MacBook Pro M1 with MacOS Sequoia 15.5 (24F74)

I will try your suggestions ASAP and come back with the results.

Doesn't seem related to me, that issue seems to refer to Sqlite on Windows.

In fact, just doing any of the following crashes neovim without any error messages:

:lua Snacks.picker.recent()
:lua Snacks.dashboard.pick.("oldfiles")
:lua Snacks.picker.projects()
:lua Snacks.dashboard.pick.("projects")

Deleting the state and cache files as suggested by @drowning-cat fixed the issue! 🎉
