Is it possible to assign an alias for a PluginSpec?

I was wondering if it is possible to assign an alias to a plugin spec, allowing for easier names when overriding opts, something like:

-- nvim/init.lua
require("lazy").setup({
  { import = "plugins" },   -- load plugins first
  { import = "ftplugins" }, -- load overrides/merges after
})

-- nvim/lua/plugins/init.lua
return {
  {
    "lspconfig",                                          -- assign an alias for this plugin spec
    url = "https://github.com/neovim/nvim-lspconfig.git", -- assign the plugin url
    ...                                                   -- set default options and config
  }
}

-- nvim/lua/ftplugins/python.lua
return {
  {
    "lspconfig" -- here I don't need to repeat the repo name, just use the alias!
    ...         -- override/merge config options
  }
}

this doesn't seem to work, because when lazy loads my ftplugins, it complains it could not find the "lspconfig" plugin, which I assume is trying to find a github repo with that name.

Sorry, I did read the whole documentation, but I guess I missed something.

Is it the name option? I guess what is not clear to me is the [1] argument for a plugin spec. It is described as:

Short plugin url. Will be expanded using config.git.url_format

But I guess this argument also searches for the plugin by its name? I did a test here and it worked. Maybe the documentation could be clarified a bit.
