Using Lazy.nvim with a bare / dotfiles repo

I use a bare git repo in ~/.cfg to manage my dotfiles:

When I use Lazy in ~/.config/nvim, running the "check" or "update" commands shows this:

all plugins fail with

● LuaSnip 16.76ms   nvim-cmp  * fetch failed
    fatal: couldn't find remote ref refs/heads/main

You are setting thise GIT env vars? So yes, that would not work with lazy

I just checked and actually GIT_DIR is unset explicitly inside lazy. I probably had other users doing similar things.

So just for the bootstrap part, just make sure you do vim.env.GIT_DIR = nil and it might work afterall

Thanks! I had gotten that far by searching the repo and finding #434, though my initial solution was to add git command line overrides to the bootstrap git command. I like your suggestion better.

In my case, I also had to unset GIT_WORK_TREE.

Here it is in full:

I spoke too soon. It seems like having the work tree set still causes problems later on, even though bootstrapping works. I'll update if I figure anything out for dealing with that.

I just pushed a change that also unsets GIT_WORK_TREE. That should probably do it
