Disable Backups Vim init.lua file

I am wondering how to turn off backups, seems there is an issue with file watchers in Deno when you have backups enabled and the file is removed from the watch list.

I would like to disable backups completely. I have tried the following but it has not solved the issue, I am not sure if it turned off backups or not.

vim.g.backup = false
vim.g.writebackup = false
