Just found that you have a project and want to come up with a layout for Finnish and German. I do not type Finnish, but developed a layout for German, English and Dutch for my own use. You might be interested in my article series explaining the concept. When I saw a reddit post yesterday from someone looking for a Finnish layout I created a layout which I think will work great for both English and Finnish. In addition it follows the IMO cool concept to use comfortable key positions, which you can use on a columnar staggered, but in the same way on a standard (laptop) keyboard.
I wonder why so many seem to write an optimization program, when there is a very solid option existing since around 2010 (opt by Andreas Wettstein). Due the huge amount of work I had done before to get to my layout and setup an evaluation chain I was able to find the anymak:EnFin layout in a short time. Curious what you think of it. I am also interested what numbers your evaluation will give for my layout. When you read my article you will understand why I think that any evaluation numbers should be just considered as an indication.
