Smokeview Crash

Hello everyone,

When I try to load my particle files in Smokeview, I encounter a Segmentation fault (core dumped) error for some files, causing Smokeview to crash on both Linux and Windows.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Upload an input file that demonstrates the problem ( change .fds to .txt ) and indicate what version of smokeview you are using.

use the latest smokeview version 6.9.6 https://github.com/firemodels/smv/releases/tag/SMV-6.9.6
if you still see a problem start an issue and upload your input file after changing extension from .fds to .txt

I've tried it, but I'm still encountering the same issue
When I load the particle files one by one, some files cause Smokeview to crash, while others load without issues.

Does the problem occur after the simulation has completed, or during the simulation?

I am running the case now.

I can load all the particles early in the simulation

but over time I might run out of memory loading all these particles at all these time steps. Have you tried a larger SAMPLING_FACTOR on the PART line?

1.after the simulation has completed
2. I used SAMPLING_FACTOR=10 only, I didn't try SAMPLING_FACTOR larger than this

I reproduced the problem when viewing the case on the PC. Don't think it is memory related. A pointer is NULL that shouldn't be. I'm taking a look.

try smokeview posted here. there was a bug that showed up on windows (but not linux) smokeview when a particle file did not exist but was referenced in the .smv file. or update your smv repo and rebuild smokeview

Sorry, but could you clarify what you meant by "or update your SMV repo and rebuild Smokeview"? Is this update intended to fix the issue in the existing simulation with the error, or is it only for upcoming simulations?

I posted a pre-compiled smokeview at the link in my previous post. I was just giving you the option of building smokeview yourself if you have the smv git repo on your computer. In both cases the updated smokview should work without crashing on your existing case
