[Bug]: Fill widget option zooms in on image

Hi, I love your app! I have noticed that if you select the Fill aspect ratio option, it zooms in on the image, and the rounded corners would not be visible either. I think the zoom was not a bug before the latest update.

Hi @unchihugo, thanks for reporting this issue. I'm aware that sometimes the Fill aspect ratio behaves unexpectedly, zooming in on the image a lot more than defined when customizing the widget. I'm still trying to find the root cause but I should have a workaround in the next app update.

In the meantime, whenever that happens, try changing the size of the widget temporarily and the immediately restore it to the original size you had set. That should nudge the widget into fixing itself.

Hi, thank you for rolling out a patch! Unfortunately even on 1.25.2 I can replicate this bug.
Here are a few things I have noticed, hopefully it can help you with figuring this out:

• The zoom is really apparent on 1x1 and 2x1 widgets only.
• During resizing, the image looks to be cropped properly, but once let go of the resizing, it zooms back in.
• The rounded corners are not displaying correctly with the fill option (they're outside the widget's bounds).
• I personally didn't notice this bug before 1.25.x.

Currently the app features both wide and tall aspect ratios, but perhaps implementing a custom aspect ratio selector could be a (temporary) workaround for this issue? Thanks for reading :)

Unfortunately the issue stems from trying to support borders and rounded corners on Fill widgets. With all other aspect ratios I'm in full control of the image size, but with Fill widgets I must depend on the system to tell me what the resulting size of the widget is, before I can size the image and for whatever reason that measurement is not working. The problem could be coming from the OS, the launcher, or even the app itself, but it's hard to track since the issue doesn't happen on all phones.

I'll continue investigating it, and if I can't find a definitive solution I'll start considering a workaround. Thanks for your comprehension so far and apologies for the inconvenience!

Hi @fibelatti, the recent update seems to have resolved a lot of scaling issues I had regarding the "fit" aspect ratio, thank you for working on this!

I've noticed one last edge-case during my usage where it looks like the widgets don't scale properly: when I'm on landscape mode, tall widgets don't scale properly, but on portrait mode they do. Every other widget scales properly now, in both orientations.

@unchihugo thank you so much for letting me know! I've made some changes that I was hoping would fix the issues for good and was waiting a few days to pass by after submitting the update to reach out, but thanks for proactively doing it.

I'll check that last case you mentioned, I thought only the fill format was subject to the problem since the others are not measured the same. I'll report back once I know more!

I badly worded that, I meant tall widgets using the fill aspect ratio option! Sorry for the misunderstanding, and I hope it didn't cause you too much confusion :)

@unchihugo ah, that makes a bit more sense now! I locked the measurement to always use portrait (unless it's a landscape tablet), so it tracks with the behavior you're seeing. That's mostly a workaround since most widgets are running on phones and handling measurements from the system is a bit finicky. I'll investigate a bit more to see if there's a reliable way to handle it without compromise.

Oh, I'm observing these issues on a tablet, it seems like the issue has shifted for me.

I've noticed that before this update, fill widgets that were wide incorrectly scaled, and after the update fill widgets that were tall started scaling incorrectly (both observed on tablet), so basically the bug switched around. Fill widgets that took a 1:1 aspect ratio on the home screen remain working correctly.

Also, thanks for fixing that issue where you couldn't click small widgets!
