AHA! My apologies for failing to notice something failed. I can repro it,

When there's an error during creation, although the error is reported, it also reports success.

And it appears that the problem is during the creation process, it tries to do a mkdir of the current working directory, which if you're in the root directory of a drive, fails with an EPERM.

So, it's writing all the files to d:\grocy-micro-ui2 then for some reason trying to do a mkdir which fails and stops the dependency installation, but is still being recognized as a completion at the end, even though it didn't.

I recognize that people usually aren't using the root directory, but I have a drive setup (win 11 dev drive, although it doesn't seem to matter, i tried on a physical drive too, and that failed in the same way) that JUST has source code on it, so I make each project off the root directly.

Thanks for pointing out that it was a failure in generation, I just saw "Your feathers app is ready to go!" and completely missed that because I was paying attention to the guide rather than the terminal output.

So.. seems there's a spurious mkdir (cwd) happening.. which doesn't make sense to me since at that point, per the output, it's already created the app directory and all the files in it.. also, i'm noticing that in the "Wrote file" lines it's printing the lines as if CWD is already the app directory.. so makes it even weirder that it's trying to mkdir (cwd)

Ah, I suspected something like that. Does it work if you create the new app in an existing subdirectory? My first guess for the culprit would be https://github.com/feathersjs/feathers/blob/dove/packages/generators/src/connection/templates/knex.tpl.ts#L71 but as you pointed out, that should be in the correct directory already.

If I make a subdirectory from root, and do the npm create feathers@latest grocy-micro-ui2 within, then it does go through the npm install on all the things, and the rest of the steps seem to work correctly.

I did try on both the Dev drive partition, as well as on a physical D drive, and both failed from the root, and both succeeded from in subdirectories.

It doesn't seem like it could be that line, unless node 20's path.join or mkdir does something really incorrectly, as that should resolve to just 'g:\migrations' which worst case would be just migrations . . although i'd expect cwd would be the already created subdirectory. . . unless... windows prevents node from mkdiring in root, in which case, that would sort of make sense, if the cwd was the root. but the cwd shouldn't be root, it should be in the app, right?

ultimately, the error message seems to indicate that it's trying to mkdir('G:') which is an obvious failure, but it could be that it's trying to mkdir('G:\migrations') which might be some kind of permissions error relating to not allowing software to write to root unless it's admin. . . . which i don't know if that's even a thing...

ok, tested it out, and i can mkdir('c:/test123') but if i do it twice, it errors with EEXIST. mkdir('c:/') results in EPERM, as above.

So someone, somewhere is trying to mkdir the cwd, but is not blowing up on EEXIST, only on EPERM, it would seem.

I was actually wondering if that mkdir was necessary at all. I don't think it is (since folders will be created automatically) and removing it might even fix this problem.
