Can figures in Jupyter book be numbered by section, not for the entire book?

I have a book with 60+ figures and the numbering is a bit unclear because of that.

For numbering figures, I use the following settings in _config.py to force section level figure numbering and referencing:

sphinx:
 ...
  config:
    ...
    numfig: true
    numfig_format: {'figure':'Figure %s'}
    numfig_secnum_depth: 1 #eg 0:1 1:2.1 2:3.2.1
    ...

@psychemedia Thanks so much for this idea! I tried it out today and it didn't seem to change any figure numbering. Is there anything else to know to make this work, or a good way to troubleshoot? Thanks.

Change in what way? What are you currently seeing and what settings do you currently have in place? And what do you want to see?

I wonder if it could be theme dependent too?

My figure numbers seem to be counting throughout the whole document and I'd like them to restart by part or chapter or section. I tried your code in my config file and didn't see any changes in the figure numbering. I only have your numbering settings in place when I tried your code. Unless you mean the whole config file?
