Urban Heat Island

Here is just a preliminary figure evaluating the Urban Heat Island (UHI) intensity for Paris. The first row shows the sfturf variable (urban fraction), the second row presents spatial anomaly maps for minimum temperature between the urban (red polygon) and rural (blue polygon) areas, and the third shows the annual cycle anomaly in the same way. For now, only three RCMs have the sfturf variable available.

I can include some observations I have for Paris to compare the results with stations, but maybe that’s too much for the overall evaluation paper and would be better included in a separate, urban study.

I think this is a very cool analysis, if a comparison to obs is possible this would be quite valuable. Also, in case we have hourly data, a mean daily cycle of the differences in JJA would be great (differences should be larger at night)

Indeed, this is very good example of the added value in contrast to the seasonal means averaged over the region. Perhaps, we may include such an example to the study, especially if obs can be added. An urban study can include more comprehensive analysis, e.g. the diurnal cycle mentioned by Sven and more RCMs. Right now we still have a moderate subset of the EURO-CORDEX RCMs. I just uploaded sfturf for HCLIM43-ALADIN.
