ARF state of wallet instance, PID

In real life, when my identity document expires, that won't prevent me from using other credentials that remain valid.
The wallet instance state-chart seems to prevent such behaviour, preventing the wallet holder to use any other credential in case their PID expires, form example.
This sounds rather counterintuitive and may lead to poor user experience.
Why not allow valid credentials to remain usable?
