I tried like this

const chatContract = new BaseContract(process.env.NEXT_PUBLIC_CHAT_CONTRACT_ADDRESS!, CHAT_ABI, await provider?.getSigner());
chatContract.on('messageSent', async () => {
			console.log('EVENT EMMITTED!!!!!!!!');

			await getMessages();
		});

like this

and maybe some other way, but all of it throws the same error.... How should I then listen to events of a particular contract? Thank you

yeah, I don't need a signer here, but the error is the same without it
