estimateGas failing on mainnets with "insufficient funds for gas * price + value"

Hi I'm trying to estimate the gas before I mint an nft. It works perfectly fine on testnets but when switching to eth mainnet or polygon it throws an insufficient funds error.

It throws the error

The code that triggers the error
const gas = await protonContract.estimateGas[protonMintMethod]( ...mintingParameters, { value: payableContract ? ethers.utils.parseEther(String(pricePerMint)) : '0' }, );
Not sure why this happens as the transaction should just simulate and not actually require gas. Any insights would be great :)!!
