factory.deploy() throws error of not a function

My reacts (17.0.x) app has a page to take entered abi and bytecode for deployment as below:

let factory = new ethers.ContractFactory(JSON.parse(abi), JSON.parse(bytecode), wallet);  //ethers v5.5.1
const contract = await factory.deploy(initsupply); //<<==throws error below 
contract.on("event", ...)

The above code throws error:

error :  TypeError: this.signer.sendTransaction is not a function
    at ContractFactory.<anonymous> (index.ts:1237)
    at Generator.next (<anonymous>)
    at fulfilled (index.ts:2)

What may be going wrong here?

Hey @emclab, can you give more info about what wallet is? It should have a sendTransaction method.
