why are gas prices so high to deploy a new token

Hi, I'm trying to launch a new token using PinkSale and they charge a small fee for the custom token; however, the gas price to deploy has been $10k - $35k...which is ridiculous. Is this specific to PinkSale or is it bc of the custom token? I compared to a basic token created on Eat the Blocks and gas was around $500 which is way way less. Any idea why? Any recommendations of other token maker sites?

What is the gas limit that is being passed? Generally estimations are put using the gas limit (which show the maximum amount of ETH that would be charged to you), but in practice your transaction may consume less gas than the gas limit.
