Why does Ethers.js listAccounts() return a single account when several were selected?

I am trying to use the listAccounts method from etherjs's Web3Provider in order to list the selected accounts from Metamask.

Here is what I have tried:

    const ethereum = window['ethereum'];

    const requestPermissions = ethereum.request({
      method: 'wallet_requestPermissions',
      params: [{ eth_accounts: {} }]
    });

    this.provider = new ethers.providers.Web3Provider(ethereum);

    const listAccounts = this.provider.listAccounts();

    requestPermissions
      .then(() => listAccounts)
      .then(accounts => console.log('accounts: ', accounts));// Only one account here, the fist selected account...

Although I have selected several accounts in Metamask, listAccounts returns an array containing a single account...

Any thought?
