connecting to ethereum compatible chains

Hi,

Since the gas prices of eth is astronomically high, I have been exploring other options on my project. I was wondering if anyone else has the same feeling. In any case, I was trying to use ethers.js to connect to harmony one through jsonrpc but with no luck. Has anyone tried anything similar? It'd be great to get some tips on how to get it to work.

I'm unaware of Harmony, but ethers does work fine with Ethereum compatible chains, like xDai.

Keep in mind that gas prices are high on Ethereum because of demand. As demand shifts to other networks, those networks will also become expensive, so remaining able to pivot back is also useful.

I'm most excited about the upcoming flood of L2 solutions. :)

Thanks for the insight! You are always very responsive. I actually finally got it to work. It was a stupid mistake, forgot to call new jsonrpcprovider. Luckily it was pointed out by someone. Can the etherscanprovider be used to connect to let's say bscscan? If so, how would I do it? Thanks!

I think so. I am still working on the dApp, but I deployed some contracts also to BSChain using Hardhat-Ethers without problems. It is much more compatible than Harmony (which I tried too) in the sense that you can also publish the source code to BSCScan, the same way you do for Etherscan.

The BSC variant of EtherscanProvider will not be easy until v5.2 which I'm working on now. But it should be fairly easy to copy the code and just swap out the URLs for now.

@sullof Did you get it to work with Harmony? I am actually trying to get it to work with either Harmony or Moonbeam. I know Moonbeam won't work as their engineering team got back to me. Do you know if it will work with Harmony? If so, how did you get it to work? Thanks in advance!

Oh, sorry, I didn't try that. I was talking in general about Harmony being less standard than BSChain. For BSChain I just have something in the hardhat_config while for Harmony I end up using a different repo. For the most they are the same, tho
