I appreciate the work you have done on my favorite hide-from-the-world sanity break activity. The ability to scream at the charlatans, mock the atheists, emerse myself into a character or civilization, do mindless stuff (like mining), to play devils advocate, curse or cheer the politicians ---- all that sort of stuff has helped me deal with personal situations like some of those you describe. Time and Season: Another, after enduring some stuff, said "It is finished" --- acknowledging that (time & season) gracefully is what I am seeing you doing here. I'm fairly confident that those with the needed skills will stand on your shoulders and reach into places even higher-- and probably make some goofs along the way. And that's OK Thank you. |

Well, as things stand currently, this is the end of the line for Delta and my involvement with Endless Sky. My reasons are many, and I won't belabor them here, but basically boil down to the fact that, due to recent events, I have finally lost hope that upstream's leadership have any honest intent to ever make a good faith attempt at reconciliation. I know, individually, they are all good people, but collectively they seem to be the sum of their worst traits. I know I have made many mistakes, and the rough road of the past several years was a collaborative result of our mutual failures. I apologized last year, and over the time since admitting my failures and regret has become easier. Truth and honest is, as always, the best course of action, even when fear and unrelated pain have made it hard to do so. I had family suffer from a severe long-term condition, and then progress to a life-threatening conditions that necessitated long-distance travel as they were in the hospital for over a month for treatment, and meanwhile my dog had a gradual but terminal case of cancer, both during this same time period. It is not an excuse for my mistakes, but I do have to realize that strong negative events like that can make it hard to choose options that may be overall the better choices.
My time with Endless Sky has, overall, been wonderful. The opportunity to work with the early endless sky community where people were enthusiastic, positive, and eager to make things and support each other was awesome. The opportunity to write something and work with Moonbeam, TheESMarksman, and other editors to make a story that thousands of people have enjoyed was amazing. You have my thanks for all your efforts, and I know the story I wrote would not be anywhere near as good if not for you.
Beyond that, however, it is you, the players, the people that keep asking me for more story, that are the reason that I kept going as long as I have. You are the ones that have kept me writing. You are the ones that have kept me coming back. You are the ones for whom I kept deciding that I would make one more try, or accept one more invitation to talk. You are the fuel that kept me going.
As such, I would like to dedicate this release to RecursiveParadox. They have been the longest running player, the one who is the most unfailingly positive. Not that they didn't find bugs or problems - they most definitely did, and helpfully reported them to me. But even when their meager fleet of human warships was being demolished by a wrong turn into the graveyard, they never ceased to be positive and providing me with valuable feedback. They kept me focused on the real reason I have continued to participate: The people. The people are the important thing. Nothing, no piece of lore, no mechanic, no spreadsheet, nothing, absolutely nothing, is worth people getting hurt. This is a game. It's purpose is to be fun. To bring enjoyment to people, both in the making of it, and the playing of it. You, RecursiveParadox, have helped keep me connected to that positivity. The joy of creating, the feeling of shared enjoyment in contributing to someone else's happiness.
I would also like to shout out to @MasterOfGrey, @ravenshining, and VitalChip. You have been fellow creators that have stuck with me all these years. I have learned a lot from you, and enjoyed our time together. I hope our conversations continue, even if we aren't working on ES in particular.
