Proposal: Add Custom Profile Fields

I suggest implementing functionality that allows users or administrators to create and manage custom fields within user profiles. This could include fields such as personal website URLs, phone numbers, email addresses, manager names, department information, or GitHub usernames—similar to what's available in platforms like Slack and Mattermost.

It would be helpful to have these custom fields populated either through the API (for automated management or integration with other systems) or by allowing users themselves to fill in or update their own details directly through the user interface. This enhancement would significantly improve user information completeness and streamline communication within organizations.

I even found a proposal from 2015, but there seems to be no movement there:
