Guideline Suggestions

We have suggestions for moderators to let the room know when they are speaking as a moderator, etc, but it would also be helpful when other folks who have multiple roles do the same. Examples:

• “putting on DA board member hat”
• “acting as company owner”
• “speaking as community member”
• "speaking as CWG member"

The burden of this clarification should not fall 100% on the person whose role is in question - folks in the community should ask politely what their role is in this conversation, so that this becomes a natural communication.

Other notes:

If a DA person, for example, comes into the channel in an unofficial capacity, just to share something like this survey, (and let’s say they’ve clarified they’re here as a community member), and you'd like to ask about something unrelated, ask if that's okay first. IE, "Can I ask you a question about X?" Everyone should feel free to say "I don’t feel comfortable responding to that."

So we have a shared responsibility to respect and maintain boundaries. Folks can say “hey, can I ask you about [thing related to other role you have]” and Folks can say “I don’t feel comfortable talking about that”

Perhaps something implicit within the Guidelines that everyone is a Participant unless explicitly indicating the current topic is ‘official’?

I can definitely see where confusion can arise, because that was how I had been treating it and didn't even realize not everyone shared the same view. We have indicated that we are all 'Participants', but perhaps we should be a little more explicit in how we feel that verbiage should be approached.
