Shorthand syntax not working while using from theme template

I have bootstrap theme and trying to use pattern lab. My pattern lab code contains short hand syntax which is failing in drupal theme. It works fine with pattern lab but does not work in drupal environment. Is there any way I can fix this. I have already tried installing patternengine-php in drupal root level without success. Any advices?
