HEXRD Discussions page

At CHESS we’ve been having a bunch of discussions about ongoing work on the HEXRD codebase, and in particular usability of the code as it evolves, leading to the following suggestion/invitation/ask:

If you are a HEXRD user, and you’re running into issues like old scripts breaking when you move to a new release, or you just have questions about how to do something with the codebase - PLEASE consider posting to the HEXRD Github Discussions page (https://github.com/HEXRD/hexrd/discussions). Posts here on the DMI message board are great too, but there’s a lot of active/dedicated code development happening in HEXRD right now, and not all of the developers monitor this board or are as active in the larger DMI community. HEXRD-specific posts to the HEXRD Github Discussions page will be readily seen by more HEXRD-dedicated developers - and fielding questions from code users will help them in their development work.

It’ll also help your fellow HEXRD users - we’re hoping the Discussions page can start to play a role similar to what Stack Overflow is for programming generally.

We’re specifically suggesting using the Discussions page for these types of questions because we recognize there can often be a mental barrier to posting “how do I do this?” or “my bespoke script broke” question as a Github “issue”.

The HEXRD developers are on board with this and actively want to hear what questions and challenges are coming up for folks.
