Mac: VPK files won't open on AWS via vnc #2

on AWS, opening vpk files produces a "file not found" error even though the file is there. THinking there might be some decompress program missing from AWS linux 2, seeing as vpk files are just zip archives. unzipping the vile then opening the internal .vue files works, but the links between them fail.
